Yeah, the food we eat has a huge effect on our skin. It determines whether our skin is healthy or not. These were the words of Dr. Chanda, the most famous dietician in Northern India. Dr. Chanda was delivering the seminar in America about the food one should eat to keep the skin glowing and healthy. She describes the few food products one should consume and also gives the benefits of having these food items.
- Water: – First of all, one should remember that 70% of our body is made up of water. Thus water is the most important ingredient. Water contains several vitamins and mineral which imparts a glow to your skin. You might have heard various actresses, stars, and people with healthy skin stating water as their biggest secret.
- Fruits and vegetables: – Fruits and vegetables have a large portion of our balanced diet. The fruits like grapes strawberries, oranges, apples, litchis, watermelon papaya, etc are the secrets of glowing and shining skin. Vegetables like spinach, tomatoes, cucumber, sweet potatoes, beetroot, and carrots, are rich in fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, and Vitamin E. All these minerals and vitamins tend to give us healthy skin.
- Sweets: – The people who love to eat sweets a lot tend to have oily skin texture. Along with oily skin comes the issues like redness, pimples, blackheads, etc.
- Foods with high glycerin index: – Food with high glycerin index can increase the blood sugar level. High blood sugar levels trigger the process called glycation. In this process, sugar molecules attach to collagen in the skin and harden the collagen. Thus it gives a creepy appearance to the skin and causes wrinkles and fine lines.
- Artificial sweeteners: – Artificial sweeteners can affect our skin a lot. It increases the levels of the hormone in our body which have adverse effects on our skin. The skin shows quick changes from oily to dry skin.
- Dairy products: – Dairy products like milk, paneer, and malai have been widely used in face packs. These products help to smoothen our skin and give a uniform texture. Dairy products are rich in protein and also help to increase the rate of production of new skin cells. There may be people who are lactose intolerant, those must stay away from these products, these people are exceptions.
- Alcohol and soda: – Consuming a lot of alcohol can cause dehydrated skin. The skin becomes dull, wrinkles start appearing, and fine lines can be easy. Alcohol can also fasten the processing of aging. It affects both men and women and takes away all the moisture from the skin.
- Fast food and spicy food: – One should avoid the consumption of fast food and spicy food. It not only affects our appetite but also has a huge impact on our skin. The skin becomes oily and rough. Pimples and acne start appearing. The harmful bacteria make your skin rough and spread redness all over your face. The carbs present in these food items cause inflammation and make the skin look aged.
