RISK OF CONFUSION: WHICH PRODUCT CAN DO WHAT?

As a child, you might have wondered why your mother needed shampoo and conditioner to wash her hair. For children, there might not be a difference between the two products – and both always burn the eyes. Even though we’ve been able to solve this mystery in the meantime, as an adult, we still sometimes feel like this today: we don’t understand the difference between some beauty products. In this article, we will explain why there is a risk of confusion with certain products and the differences!

TONER VS TONICS

There are arguably no two beauty products that are more confusing than toner and tonic. No wonder: in the age of all-in-1 products, where every product can do a little bit of everything, the boundaries between the different application areas are becoming blurred.

However, there is an essential difference between skincare toners and facial tonics. A facial tonic is primarily intended to cleanse the face. A toner, on the other hand, is only used when the skin has already been washed. It prepares you for subsequent care products so that they can work better. So toners serve a different purpose than facial toners – unfortunately, very few people know that!

ESSENCE VS SERUM

Thanks to the Korean beauty hype, it’s suddenly on everyone’s lips and everyone’s skin – the essence. It is an integral part of the 10-step beauty program of the Koreans and is also gaining more and more popularity in this country. However, Western beauty fans are right to ask themselves: What distinguishes the essence from the good old serum?

The difference is not that big: serums are relatively dense, have an exceptionally high concentration of nutrients and are usually developed for specific skin problems and areas of the skin.

Essences, on the other hand, are also highly concentrated, but their formulation is much lighter – and they are intended for the care of the whole face. So whether you should get an essence depends on how extensively you apply your serum (depending on the skin problem). For a natural Korean beauty routine, the new hype product is, of course, indispensable per se.

HAIR TREATMENT VS CONDITIONER

A common misconception among women: “Conditioner takes care of the hair”. That’s not the case! A conditioner only temporarily ensures that unruly hair becomes smooth and combable again by wrapping itself around the roughened cuticle layer of the individual hairs.

However, this effect is purely external: a conditioner does not change anything in the long term on the actual problem – the roughened hair structure. To ensure the hair’s cuticle remains intact long-term, it is best to use hair treatments regularly.

FOUNDATION VS BB CREAM

Another common misconception: “BB cream and foundation are the same”. That’s not true! While foundations are primarily intended to create a perfect base for the subsequent make-up and to cover it as well as possible, BB creams have more caring properties. Although the blemish balms do not protect as much as foundations, they often contain even more valuable anti-ageing active ingredients than foundations – they are practically day cream and foundation simultaneously.

Did you all know the differences? With which beauty products have you never really understood the difference?
