How do AHA and BHA Differ

Skin exfoliation and why it is important

We all want to have that perfect skin tone. Having impeccable skin is challenging because you have to watch what you eat, and most important of all, you have to be careful when selecting beauty products. It is also important to emphasize the importance of exfoliating because beauty products can not be effective without exfoliating. The skin is a living organism and it contains both living cells and dead cells. Humans shed their skin periodically and that is the reason why we need to get rid of the dead cells.

Exfoliation also has other benefits like clearing the pores. Clogged pores can cause you to have pimples because there is no outlet for fats and sweat. The process also boosts lymphatic drainage and circulation of the blood. This means that cells can regenerate at a rapid rate thus causing you to get that radiant and glowing skin. However, the most important reason why you should regularly exfoliate is that your skin can absorb other cosmetic products better.

What is AHA and why is it important?

AHA is an acronym that means alpha-hydro acid in full and it is used as an exfoliant. It is a product that is made from plants and animals and its main purpose is to form part of the basic ingredients in skincare products like tonners and beauty creams. The most common form of AHA that is used includes glycolic, lactic, citric, malic, and tartaric acids. AHAs are considered safe to be used as cosmetic products and you can easily find lactic and glycolic acid-based products over the counter because they have been extensively researched by the pharmaceutical industry.

What is BHA and why is it important?

BHA is an acronym that stands for Beta-Hydroxy Acid and is also used as an exfoliant. It is recommended for people with smooth and plump skin. They are considered to be less aggressive compared to AHA and you can also use them as an anti-inflammatory agent. BHA can be used on any skin type but it is highly recommended if you have oily skin.

What is the difference between AHA and BHA?

They both are similar because they are mostly used as an exfoliating agent in beauty care products. The main difference between the two is that BHAs are oil-soluble acids and that is why it is recommended for oily skin. Whereas, AHA is considered to be a water-soluble acid and is more aggressive on the skin compared to BHA.

How to use both products?

It is easy to use AHA and BHA products and you can apply either of them in the evening after taking your bath. It is the best time to exfoliate because you are not exposed to sunlight. AHA is particularly sensitive and it is recommended you apply sunscreen products when using it. If you use them regularly in the recommended dose, it would ideally take one month for you to get that radiant and glowing skin. Remember to have a healthy diet and drink lots of fluid to facilitate cell regeneration in your skin. Sunscreen products are essential if you are going out during the day so make sure you have one.
